Question 1

What is a lubricated plug valve and how does it work?

Accepted Answer

A lubricated plug valve uses a tapered plug rotating inside the valve body to open or close the flow path. A special sealant injected under pressure into grooves around the plug creates multiple seals, ensuring bubble-tight shut-off, reduced friction, and protection of internals from corrosive or abrasive media.

Question 2

What patterns and sizes of lubricated plug valves does SHIELD offer?

Accepted Answer

SHIELD Lubricated Plug Valves are available in Short Pattern, Regular Pattern and Venturi Pattern, with sizes from 1/2" to 24" (DN15 - DN600), pressure ratings from Class 150 to Class 2500, and body materials including carbon steel (WCB), stainless steel and alloy steel.

Question 3

Can lubricated plug valves handle high pressure?

Accepted Answer

Yes. SHIELD lubricated plug valves are rated from Class 150 up to Class 2500 and are available with a pressure balance inverted lubricated design that equalizes pressure between plug and body chambers, making them suitable for pulsating or static high-pressure services.

Question 4

Which industries use lubricated plug valves?

Accepted Answer

Lubricated plug valves are widely used in oil & gas, chemical processing, petrochemical, power generation and water treatment industries for wellhead isolation, manifolds, pipelines, sludge control and auxiliary services where reliable bubble-tight shut-off is critical.

Question 5

Does SHIELD provide custom lubricated plug valve solutions?

Accepted Answer

Yes. SHIELD can provide custom designs and modifications including special materials, actuation options (manual lever, gear, electric, pneumatic, hydraulic), multi-port configurations and specific sealant systems to meet particular application requirements.
