What is a swing disc check valve?

A swing disc check valve is a non-return valve in which the disc swings on a hinge or trunnion to block reverse flow or allow forward flow. It prevents reversal of flow through pipelines and is particularly suited to low velocity service.

What are the main design types of SHIELD swing disc check valves?

SHIELD offers Wafer Plate Check Valve, Swing Disc Check Valve, Tilting Disc Check Valve, and Rubber Disc Check Valve. Each design is engineered for specific pressure ratings and fluid services.

What size range and pressure rating are available?

SHIELD swing disc check valves are available from DN50 to DN1200 (2" to 48") with pressure ratings from Class 150 to Class 900.

What standards do SHIELD swing disc check valves comply with?

Our swing disc check valves are designed to API 594, API 6D and ASME B16.34, and tested according to API 598 and ISO 5208.

Can swing disc check valves be installed horizontally or vertically?

Yes. Most swing check valves can be installed in horizontal or vertical upward flow piping. They offer low resistance to flow and are particularly suited to low velocity service.

What applications are SHIELD swing disc check valves suitable for?

They are widely used in water, wastewater, oil & gas, HVAC, chemical and general industrial piping systems for reliable backflow prevention.
