Question 1

What is a marine valve and what is it used for?

Accepted Answer

Marine valves are critical safety components used on ships and offshore platforms to control the flow of fuel, water, air, and cargo. They are engineered to withstand saltwater corrosion, high pressure, temperature fluctuations and constant vibration, and are typically manufactured to JIS standards such as JIS F7301, F7369, F3059, F7350 and F7400.

Question 2

Which JIS standards do SHIELD marine valves comply with?

Accepted Answer

SHIELD Marine Valve Series MF is manufactured to JIS F7301, F7369, F3059, F7350 and F7400 standards, and pressure ratings from JIS 5K to 40K. All valves undergo hydraulic pressure testing and are approved by major Classification Societies including ABS, DNV, LR, BV and CCS.

Question 3

What types of marine valves does SHIELD supply?

Accepted Answer

SHIELD supplies JIS marine globe valves (JIS F7301 bronze, JIS 10K cast steel), marine gate valves (cast iron, bronze 10K, JIS F7369), marine check valves (bronze, cast iron swing, JIS F3059 storm valve), marine butterfly valves (wafer type), and specialized marine valves (angle valves, hull valves, expansion joints, emergency shut-off valves, cryogenic valves for LNG carriers).

Question 4

What materials are used in SHIELD marine valves?

Accepted Answer

SHIELD marine valves are available in bronze, cast iron and cast steel, specifically selected for seawater corrosion resistance and long-term reliability in marine environments. Temperature range covers standard service to cryogenic (LNG) applications.

Question 5

Where are SHIELD marine valves used?

Accepted Answer

SHIELD marine valves are used in shipbuilding, offshore platforms, and marine terminals — including ballast systems, seawater cooling lines, fire main systems, fuel oil systems, cargo systems and HVAC applications.
