Question 1

What is an Orbit Plug Valve?

Accepted Answer

The SHIELD Orbit Plug Valve operates on a cam principle. The plug lifts slightly from its seat, rotates 90 degrees without friction, and then reseals. This low torque design minimizes wear on the seat and actuator, extending service life dramatically.

Question 2

What is the double block and bleed (DBB) function?

Accepted Answer

The double block and bleed (DBB) design provides positive isolation with two sealing surfaces and a bleed port between them for safety verification. The Viton seal within the slip executes the DBB function, eliminating abrasion because the slips containing the Viton seals pull away from the body before the plug starts to rotate.

Question 3

What pressure ratings are available for the Orbit Plug Valve?

Accepted Answer

The Orbit Plug Valve is available in Class 150, 300, 600, and 900 pressure ratings, covering high pressure, medium pressure, and low pressure configurations for diverse industrial applications.

Question 4

What materials are used in the Orbit Plug Valve?

Accepted Answer

The body materials include WCB, stainless steel, and alloy steel. The plug materials include carbon steel and stainless steel with hard facing. Seal materials include Viton, PTFE, and metal seated options.

Question 5

Is the Orbit Plug Valve fire safe certified?

Accepted Answer

Yes. For critical safety applications, many Orbit Plug Valve models are certified as fire safe, ensuring integrity in emergency scenarios. The certified fire safe construction maintains sealing integrity even in high-temperature emergency situations.

Question 6

What industries use the Orbit Plug Valve?

Accepted Answer

The Orbit Plug Valve serves oil & gas, chemical processing, power generation, pulp & paper, food & beverage, and marine & offshore applications.

Question 7

Does the Orbit Plug Valve support in-line maintenance?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The top entry design allows for easy maintenance without removing the valve from the pipeline, reducing downtime. The bottom cover may be removed for maintenance purposes, and replacement of the slips is possible while the valve remains bolted in the pipeline (In-Line Reparability).
