Question 1

What is a hydraulic control valve?

Accepted Answer

A hydraulic control valve is a fully automatic, pilot-operated valve powered solely by line pressure. It regulates the flow or pressure of a hydraulic fluid (water or oil) within a system and can direct, start, stop, or modulate fluid movement without external power.

Question 2

What is the difference between Z Type Body and Y Type Body?

Accepted Answer

SHIELD hydraulic control valves come in two body designs. The Z Type Body uses a straight-through flow path for lower pressure loss, while the Y Type Body uses an angled flow path that reduces turbulence and places the valve in the safety zone of the cavitation chart, extending service life.

Question 3

What is the difference between a single chamber and a double chamber hydraulic control valve?

Accepted Answer

The Double Chamber model is diaphragm actuated with a disc closed type design, offering excellent sensitivity for precise pressure and flow control. The Single Chamber model is piston actuated with a disc closed type design, providing higher thrust for larger sizes and higher pressure applications.

Question 4

What is the pressure rating and size range of SHIELD hydraulic control valves?

Accepted Answer

SHIELD hydraulic control valves are available in sizes DN50 - DN600 (2" - 24") with pressure ratings of PN10, PN16, PN25, Class 150 and Class 300. Body materials include Ductile Iron, Stainless Steel and Cast Steel. Temperature range is -10°C to 80°C.

Question 5

What standards do SHIELD hydraulic control valves comply with?

Accepted Answer

SHIELD hydraulic control valves are designed to AWWA C530 and EN 1074 standards. Flange drilling conforms to ASME B16.5, EN 1092 and JIS. Testing is performed in accordance with API 598 and ISO 5208.

Question 6

Can SHIELD hydraulic control valves operate without electricity?

Accepted Answer

Yes. SHIELD hydraulic control valves are fully energy-autonomous, powered solely by the line pressure of the system. They require no external power source, making them ideal for remote locations and critical infrastructure where electrical power may be unreliable.

Question 7

What applications are SHIELD hydraulic control valves suitable for?

Accepted Answer

SHIELD hydraulic control valves are suitable for municipal water distribution, fire protection systems, irrigation networks, HVAC systems, industrial processes, water towers, storage tanks, pump stations and other fluid control applications.

Question 8

How do I request a quote for SHIELD hydraulic control valves?

Accepted Answer
